A wealth of day trips and activities on offer

During your stay with us at Bundox Safari Lodge or one of our Wildstyle Villas, don’t be shy about getting out and about and exploring the breathtaking Greater Kruger region – we’ve got a wealth of day trips and tours available for guests, all designed to introduce them to the sights and sounds of this truly special part of South Africa…

If there’s one thing you’re not going to be when you come and stay with Bundox Safari Co here in the Greater Kruger, it’s bored. Adventure is literally on your doorstep thanks to the activities we’ve put together specifically for those of you staying at Bundox Safari Lodge or visiting one of our Wildstyle Villas like Bundox River Retreat.

Top of the list is a full-day guided safari in the Kruger National Park – a veritable global conservation legend. This iconic game reserve is just a short drive away from guests, via either the Orpen or Phalaborwa Gates. You head out just as dawn is breaking in an open safari vehicle, having enjoyed some pre-safari coffee and rusks with more packed on board to enjoy en route…

There’s nothing to compare to the thrill of being on an open game vehicle, learning all about the bush from an experienced safari guide and getting incredible sightings of Africa’s most iconic wildlife species in one of its most famous national parks.

We also arrange morning and evening game drives in some of the smaller, private reserves bordering the Kruger National Park, allowing guests to make the most of the amazing wilderness areas that surround us. Or enjoy a morning walk on Bundox Safari Lodge’s own nature reserve, learning all about the small stuff that’s so often overlooked on a game drive, and stopping for a bush coffee along the way.

You can also decide to just “stay in” at Bundox Safari Lodge and enjoy a peaceful picnic in the shade of the tall trees, far from the madding crowd. We lay out a beautiful picnic bed beneath a tented canopy, with plump cushions and blankets and a table set for two, laden with snacks and drinks of your choice. Or indulge in some wonderful spa treatments at our Spa@Bundox!

As you either fly or drive into the area it’s impossible not to notice the other major attraction in this beautiful area – the impressive peaks of the northern Drakensberg Escarpment that dominates the western skyline. This is the home of the Blyde River Canyon – the world’s largest green canyon and third-largest canyon – and it’s begging to be explored. It’s home to sights like the Three Rondavels – three peaks that resemble the local style of African huts – and the Kadishi tufa waterfall that’s best viewed on a boat cruise of the Blyde Dam.

The canyon is part of South Africa’s Panorama Route – a tourism route that takes in the incredible views and geological formations that lay along the edge of the escarpment, like Bourke’s Luck Potholes where the waters of the Treur and Blyde Rivers meet and have carved out incredible features in the sandstone bedrock beneath them. There’s also the impressive Graskop Gorge and a selection of beautiful waterfalls, all of which are taken in on a full-day Panorama Route guided tour.

Helicopter and light-aircraft aerial tours are also a great way to experience the Greater Kruger region and Kruger to Canyon Biosphere, giving you a whole new perspective on this wonderful part of South Africa. Or you could try micro lighting and spotting game from the air, or the oldest form of manned flight – hot air ballooning.

We also recommend visits to some of our local wildlife rehabilitation centres where you can find out more about conservation in the area and the work being done to protect rare and endangered wildlife species. Or how about a quad bike safari at the foot of the Drakensberg Escarpment?
