Here at Bundox, we have a wide variety of birdlife to interest both novice and avid birders alike. Our forest setting plays host to myriad species; bright Orioles calling, spots of colour high in the trees; shy bushshrikes hopping around in the branches, and jewel-bright Sunbirds flitting around the flowers.
Sit on your terrace in the morning to hear the morning chorus as the birds wake up for the day, or at our waterhole to watch the Pied Kingfishers diving for breakfast and the Purple-crested Turacos flash past, purple and red wings catching the sun. The haunting call of the Fish Eagle can be heard from high above and the raucous call of the Hadedas is sure to wake you up for the day.
Our forest trail takes you on a winding path through the property, offering opportunities to spot many of our birds, spy the hawk-eagle nest, or watch the vultures catching thermals overhead.

The above schedule will vary based on your activity for the day.
WHEN TO VISIT
This region of South Africa is popular throughout the year; however, some activities may be better booked in summer or winter. There is a selection of exciting activities that can be booked at various times of the year, depending on game viewing, landscape, and weather.
Mid-year is winter in South Africa and temperatures in the Lowveld can drop below 10 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures are mild in the mid-20s. Game viewing in the Kruger is often best at this time of year, and outdoor activities may be more enjoyable in the mild weather.
Summer months can bring heavy rainfall, while the hot temperatures reaching the mid-40s can appeal to some sun-lovers! Birdlife is abundant and the presence of water makes the surroundings beautifully green. Early mornings and evenings are pleasantly warm for sunrise and sunset activities.
WHAT TO PACK
Summer months between October and April when the rainfall is high, and so is the temperature, reaching over 40 degrees Celsius. The dry winter months begin in May and carry on until October/November, during which time the weather is mild during the day with temperatures averaging mid-high 20s, while very cold in the evenings and early mornings.
Throughout the year, we recommend packing lightweight, neutral-colored clothing with short sleeves
Bring sun protection in the form of sunblock, sun hats, and glasses.
Scarfs, jackets, and gloves are needed for early mornings on a game drive, especially in winter.
Comfortable walking shoes as well as open sandals for when the weather is hot.
Bring along cameras, binoculars, and recording gadgets to keep a record of the many wildlife sightings.
